One of the critiques of the multi-site church is that it is founded in pragmatism and not necessarily scripture. This is understandable since many of us who have put it into practice are very pragmatic in our approach to accomplishing the mission of Jesus. However, it would be a lie to say that it is not based in scripture. My father, did his doctoral dissertation on the Biblical Nature of the Multi-Site Church. It is an outstanding work. In addition, one of our Leadership Residents at Community (and soon to be NewThing church planter in San Francisco), Aaron Monts let me know about JD Greear’s post where he asks and answers the question: Is the Multi-Campus Church Biblical? He admits that what he writes is from insights gleaned from John Piper and then some of his own thoughts. If you are interested, check it out HERE.
