19READ: John 19

John 19:26 & 27“When Jesus saw his mother
there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to his
mother, ‘Dear woman, here is your son,’ and to the disciple, ‘Here is your mother.’ From that time on, this disciple took her into his home.”

It has been awhile since I had read verse for verse John 19 and let the crucifixion really sink in.  Pretty brutal.  Pretty amazing.  But something that happened in the middle of Jesus being tortured that grabbed me this time.  It was how he cared for His mother.  In the middle of being nailed to a tree He looks down at John and basically said, “John, I need you to take care of her”.  And John did from that day on.  Jesus had a remarkable way of being both the savior for the world and at the same time having compassion for his mom.  He loved the world and he loved individual people.

:  Father God, help me to be a person more like Jesus. Help me to see the big picture of what you have for my life, but help me to care for individual people in the moment.  Forgive me when I get a messianic complex and forgive me when I am too busy to care for people you bring to me throughout my day.  Help me to be led by Your Spirit so that I can live like Jesus.  With love and loyalty,
