If you are new to blogging (like me) here is a terrific post from Guy Kawasaki (who is also a brand new blogger) on How To Suck Up To A Blogger. Just to wet your appetite he writes, “Blogging has flipped traditional PR on its head. It used to be that ink begat buzz. Life was simple then: you sucked up to the Wall Street Journal, one of its reporters wrote about your product, and the buzz began. Nowadays buzz begets ink. Journalists no longer anticipate or create buzz–rather, they react to it: The latest development is that blogs beget buzz. Blogs have changed everything because they represent a cheap, effective podium for creating buzz on a massive scale.” He goes on to give you nine ways to suck up and create your own buzz. I will be test-driving these soon.
The most leadership intensive aspect of being a multi-site church is often the most overlooked aspect of going multi-site – children’s ministry! Well, Tammy Melchien, the Kids City Champion for Community Christian Church and the NewThing Network knows as much about children’s ministry in a multi-site church as anyone in the country and now she has started a blog specifically dedicated to this topic. Check out this new site for Multi-Site Kid Leaders. The last couple posts are about collaboration and how to staff for children’s ministry in a multi-site church. If you are reading this – check it out, link to it and spread the word!
While I was gone my blog got a couple “thumbs up” recommendations. Leadership Network put this blog as one of six that they recommended in their latest newsletter, Advance. The people at LN have been really good to me and CCC. They are sponsoring the Coast-to-Coast Multi-Site Conference and are also the group who put together the Innovation Series with Zondervan that will be publishing our book, What’s The Big Idea. Thanks a ton!
And lastly, The Johnson County Sun from Kansas City also gave me and Community Christian Church the “thumbs up” in an article on the multi-site trend in churches. Thanks again!
I have a sitemeter on my blog that tells me how many hits I get everyday. And when I looked today it had jumped through the roof. Found out, thanks to my friend, Shawn Wood at Seacoast Community Church (who knows all things creative and techie) that I won Typepad random blog exposure on their homepage. Look closely I’m second on the list behind Second Thoughts.
Ok, while you are making blog recommendations for me…I have one for you! Ladies & Gentleman please welcome to the blogging world…Mr. Eric Bramlett! (insert raucous applause) Eric is the creative genius behind the scenes and often in front of the scenes at Community Christian Church and the NewThing Network. His blog Eric’s Eddyfications already has some cool stuff that mine doesn’t have (which I will now be getting asap!). Don’t delay, click there now!
P.S. This is just one more step toward Jon Ferguson joining the blogging world! The pressure is mounting.
What are your favorite blogs? I have been at this blogging thing for a few months and I’m starting to get the hang of it and now I’m wanting to make a list of favorite blogs. I got a few that I check out via bloglines, but if you got a second to make a few recommendations I’d love to hear from you. If it helps, the categories I’m most interested in are the following: Church/Ministry, Leadership/Innovation and just plain “Cool”. Thanks!
Gary Lamb in his blog, Mad Babble From A Church Planter called this blog one of the Top Ten Blogs saying, “Dave Ferguson QUICKLY moved into the top ten blogs. This guy is putting out meat on his blog that EVERY church leader should be reading.” Gary is the Lead Pastor of Ridge Stone – a new and very cool church in Canton, Georgia. Gary has great taste 😉 and his blog is now one of my top 10! Thanks Gary!
Over the last couple weeks the number of hits on this blog has more than quadrupled. When I check my referral page here are my top referrals: Scott Hodge, Tony Morgan, Todd Rhoades, David Rudd and Mark Howell. Thanks for the plugs!
If you haven’t checked out these guys blogs…there is some great stuff. Check it out!
For the last 24 hours or so www.typepad.com was down. If you tried to check my blog that is what happened. They are still restoring some of the pics…but it should be good as new by Sunday. I don’t know if you missed anything…but I did. I wasn’t sure if this blogging thing was something that I really enjoyed. And now I think I do! In the words of Michael Jordan (which will be the subject of my next blog!) “I’m back!”
