Moses has a tremendous leadership challenge in front of him. He has led the Israelites out of Egypt and into the desert. But now the Egyptians are pursuing them. His people are afraid. Actually the Bible says they were "terrified". They were turning on Moses and regretting ever following him. But in a moment of great of leadership Moses looks at them and says, "The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still." (Exodus 14:14)Good advice. But what is going on behind the scenes? Moses is freaking out! How do we know? Right after Moses gives this brilliant piece of wisdom to the Israelites, the Lord says to Moses, "Why are you crying out to me?" (Exodus 14:15)
Every leader knows from experience that you live with two simultaneous conversations.
- The External Conversation – "The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still." (Exodus 14:14) This is the conversation you have with those around you
- The Internal Conversation – "Why are you crying out to me?" (Exodus 14:15)
