A New York Times editorial. Making Poverty History in 2006 is worth the read. It makes the point that there has been enough talk, now it is time for action. Take a read and then ask yourself, “why does everyone assume this is the governments job and not the churches job to end poverty?” How could the church do this?
Dawn Trice, columnist for the Chicago Tribune talks about making 2006 the year she will find a church home in Search For Right Church Like Finding A Home. I sent her an e-mail and invited her to Community Christian Church It would be cool if she showed up.
My copy of Time hasn’t arrived in the mail yet – but it looks interesting. It’s cover story is about MLK’s final days and titled, The Secret Agony of Martin Luther King Jr. I got a friend in Cincinnati, Troy Jackson who worked on the King papers…it will be interesting to get his take on this.
And the latest news I’ve been getting from God? Jeremiah 33:3. I think this may be a theme verse for me in the upcoming year. Tim Sutherland was teaching on Saturday night at the Yellow Box and wrapped up his talk with this verse which says, “call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.” AIt’s not an unfamiliar verse, but it was like God was speaking to me and saying, “hey Dave, in the middle of all the new stuff you got going on – don’t forget you are going to need some new ideas…and the best ideas are My ideas”. Cool.
