READ: John 4
MY VERSE: John 4:34 – “‘My food,’ said Jesus, ‘is to do the will of Him who sent me and to finish his work.'”
MY REFLECTION: Sometimes I will have days where I almost literally run from appointment to appointment and from meeting to meeting non-stop. What happens is I start early in the morning and the morning turns into afternoon and the afternoon turns into evening and before you know it you haven’t hardly paused even to eat. Jesus had been on a roll like that. The disciples are appropriately concerned that he hasn’t had anything to eat and they encourage him saying, “you need to get something to eat or you won’t be able to keep on going”. Jesus says in so many words, “hey guys, I have a source of energy that sustains me, and you don’t know anything about it”. The disciples are confused. Then he tells them, “My food, is to do the will of Him who sent me and to finish his work.” Jesus was explaining that what really motivates him and keeps him going is doing what the Father wants; that is how he gets fed, by feeding others. This weekend at Community I will finish up the third part of the series on Arrested Development at the Yellow Box. Here is reminder of the three-part series:
- SPIRITUAL INFANCY = Being Fed
- SPIRITUAL ADOLESCENCE = Feeding Yourself
- SPIRITUAL ADULTHOOD = Feeding Others
Jesus is a great example of someone who is at a place of SPIRITUAL ADULTHOOD. It was serving God and others that was his “food”. That was how he got fed. Serving was what sustained him.
MY PRAYER: Father God, I want to serve you with the stuff that I have planned for today. Use this Big Idea workshop to encourage and equip others to do your mission in a better way. Thanks for how much meaning an purpose this mission has brought to my life. In a very real way the mission brings me sustenance. Thanks! With love and loyalty, Dave.
