READ: John 3
MY KEY VERSE: John 3:17 – “For God did not send his son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.”
MY REFLECTION: Of course verse 3:16 jumped out at me as I read this verse; but even more so this time was 3:17 and it was the phrase “to save the world…” that grabbed me. The first thing that came to mind when I read this verse was the Passion chorus that we sing at Community, Glorious. The lyrics are:
God is bigger than
The air I breathe,
The world we’ll leave.
God will save the day,
And all will say
Actually, that chorus wasn’t the first thing that came to mind. The first thing that came to mind was the Under Dog cartoon and when he is about to save Sweet Polly he says, “There’s no need to fear, Under Dog is here!” But that is just how my mind works and probably isn’t particularly inspiring. Or maybe it is! Maybe God does show up on planet earth like a super hero and isn’t here to make us feel guilty or primarily here to get us to clean up our act. God shows up on this globe in our time and space continuum to save us from ourselves, each other and not just save the day, but all of eternity. Wow.
MY PRAYER: Father God, save me from myself – my driven-ness and my desire to be successful. Save me from the evil inside me that could totally ruin “the day” that you want to save. Save me from outside influences that also could destroy “the day”. I am trusting you, Jesus to be the one to save the day both on November 7th, but also into eternity. With love and loyalty, Dave
